Lockdown may well have changed many of our relationship with alcohol. Pubs are closed in England but our drinking at home may well have risen to compensate.
Dr Emily Finch, an NHS addiction psychiatrist and the vice-chair of the addictions faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists has said that during Covid, people who are upset at no longer being able to see relatives and friends are drinking even larger quantities.
That may well further emphasise a trend we have seen for some time. It may work against the stereotype but middle income earners are much more likely to drink every night than lower income earners.

Despite their lower consumption, poorer people may well feel the ill effects of alcohol abuse more acutely than their middle classes but the traditional view of daily drinking working classes seems somewhat outdated.
