How Much Emptier Are The Roads?

There's no doubt that the roads are emptier because of the national lockdown. The little chart below, shows just how much less traffic there is on the roads compared with February 2020.

Coinciding with people staying home more, the volume of car traffic was lower during the spring 2020 lockdown (between 14 and17 May 2020, it averaged at 51% of the level observed in the first week of February 2020) and reduced to a similar average (51%) in the early-2021 lockdown (between 20 and 24 January 2021).
